Where do I start, and what you should expect in our first meeting?

Contact our office to schedule a time to meet with Jennifer.  You will receive a set appointment for a one-on-one meeting via video conference.

At your video conference, we will talk about your background and look at your current stressors and current coping strategies. Together we will discuss the goals that you wish to accomplish in therapy and the ways we will get there. I work to let you know what therapy options would be best for your needs, but together we will find the best balance for you. I always strive to have you leave knowing what direction to go with your therapy and having a schedule in place so you know when we meet next.

Policies

Cancellation policy:

I request 48 hours notice for cancellations. Unless in cases of extenuating circumstances (as identified by the therapist) client will be charged the full price of the session with late cancellations.

Cancellations made prior to this window will have no penalty.

The timing of cancellation is important to help 3 things: the therapist to know what availability they have, the client to know they have consistency with their therapy and clients who need appointments the time to have those.

Late policy:

If you are more than 15 minutes late to your appointment time, it will be treated as a late cancellation.

F.A.Q.'s

Will my information be kept confidential? Yes. Therapists are bound by HIPPA Law as well as the NASW Code of Ethics. I will discuss this thoroughly with you if you have any concerns. I am therapists are mandated to report any conversations that pertain abuse or neglect to the proper agencies that may include; -Reports of abuse/mistreatment of children -Reports of abuse/mistreatment of those with handicaps -Reports of abuse/mistreatment of the elderly -Indications of harm to self -Indications of harm to others

What can courts, attorneys and other legal groups know about my therapy? Sometimes the legal groups will attempt to get clients notes in different cases. As a therapist I am trained to take every measure to prevent that from happening. I know you trust me with your information and so I try to help protect that in all cases. If am approached by lawyers/attorneys/courts about getting copies of your notes I will work with you to protect all information. I will always be available to answer any questions and help you through that time.

My child is coming to therapy, how much access do I get to their info? In all situations I strive keep confidentiality. Within each age range there are different expectations: Children under 18- I always try to work with the client to include the parents in current stressors. I teach all my clients what confidentiality means, so if anything reportable comes up I let my underage clients know we will need to let their parents know, and try to have the underage clients be part of that conversation. Other than that, what is worked on in therapy stays between the therapist and the client. Adult children over the age of 18- I can not provide any information to parents unless their adult child has signed a Release of Information. This outlines what info the therapist can share with outside parties. Parents can help pay for their adult children's sessions, they will be granted a 3rd party account on the Client Portal and will only have access to billing document.
